When to use it

Ambient backgrounds for Japanese-themed or cultural content, hero sections needing calm looping motion with a painterly aesthetic.

When not to

Light or colorful backgrounds — sky and waves are hardcoded dark navy. Contexts needing user interaction or text legibility over the canvas.

Working with an AI agent

Every component ships agent-ready metadata. An example instruction for this one:

Change the three carp colors to gold, green, and white by editing the col/col2 arguments in the three carp() calls in drawScene(), e.g. replace CORAL with "#c8a830". Theme: dark tokens live in :root, the light variant in :root[data-theme="light"]; ?theme=light or a {type:'forever:theme'} postMessage switches at runtime.

Safe to edit

  • carp colors (col/col2 args in drawScene)
  • ripple speed (t+=0.016)
  • wave amplitude multiplier (0.42)
  • number of scale rows (rows=4)
  • carp lengths (L*0.98, L*0.86, L*0.72)
  • pole x position (px=W*0.10)
  • theme tokens (:root dark defaults + [data-theme=light] overrides)

Keep intact

  • Float32Array segment buffers (topY/botY/midY) — allocated once for perf
  • visibilitychange pause guard
  • prefers-reduced-motion static fallback
  • IIFE wrapper
  • theme hook (?theme= bootstrap + forever:theme message listener + theme tokens)

Known limitations

  • Background color hardcoded in CSS and palette — must change both BG var and CSS to retheme
  • No interactivity — purely passive, no pointer or click response
  • t bounded at 2000π to avoid float drift — changing sin frequencies may require updating this bound
