Pointillist

Vibrato Field

108 paired complementary dot-couples oscillate apart so the eye optically fuses them into a shimmering amber-over-cobalt vibrato across a dark field.

When to use it

Dark-mode hero backgrounds, art/design portfolio ambience, or anywhere a painterly, slowly-shifting texture is needed without distraction.

When not to

Light backgrounds (hardcoded dark navy), contexts requiring legible text overlays, or low-end mobile where 216 canvas arcs per frame may stutter.

Working with an AI agent

Every component ships agent-ready metadata. An example instruction for this one:

Change the dominant pair to teal/rose by replacing PAIRS[0] with ["#2dd4bf","#e11d74"] and slow the oscillation by changing t*1.6 to t*0.9. Theme: dark tokens live in :root, the light variant in :root[data-theme="light"]; ?theme=light or a {type:'forever:theme'} postMessage switches at runtime.

Safe to edit

  • color pairs (PAIRS array)
  • dot count (N=108)
  • oscillation speed (t*1.6)
  • separation amplitude (0.55+0.85*amp[i])
  • dot size scale (unit=base*0.030)
  • theme tokens (:root dark defaults + [data-theme=light] overrides)

Keep intact

  • additive compositing (globalCompositeOperation='lighter')
  • IIFE wrapper
  • visibilitychange pause
  • prefers-reduced-motion drawOneFrame() fallback
  • theme hook (?theme= bootstrap + forever:theme message listener + theme tokens)

Known limitations

  • Background color hardcoded in both CSS and JS fillRect — must change in both places
  • No touch/pointer interactivity; purely passive
  • Additive blending can blow out to white on very bright color pairs

  • Pointillist ShimmerUp to 2600 colored dots optically mix to paint a pointillist riverbank at dusk — sky, water, and grassy bank zones shimmer via per-dot breathing sine waves.
  • Pointillist SunsetA glowing sun sets over shimmering water rendered as colored dot lattices. Sky baked once offscreen; water dots animate with sinusoidal shimmer and sparkle.
  • Stipple Flow108 colored dots drift along a curling sinusoidal flow field, leaving slow translucent trails that paint a sweeping diagonal arc with divisionist…
  • Divisionist Tree2600 orange, blue, and magenta dots form a tree canopy using additive pixel-splat blending; dots vibrate with staggered sine-phase for optical color mixing.
  • Density WaveA density wave sweeps left to right revealing a Divisionist sunset — sky, sun disc, and sea rendered as jittered pigment dots that optically mix at distance.
