Pollen Brownian Drift

Up to 260 warm and grey motes drift sideways on a cream field with random Brownian jitter, leaving faint fading trails; pointer and click stir gusts.

When to use it

Organic/nature-themed backgrounds, editorial hero sections with a soft paper aesthetic, ambient loading screens.

When not to

Dark-background designs (background hardcoded cream). Content-heavy layouts where floating particles distract from text.

Working with an AI agent

Every component ships agent-ready metadata. An example instruction for this one:

Change the particle palette to cool blue-grey tones by setting the warm accent RGB (192,86,60) to (80,130,200), reduce mote count cap to 160, and slow drift by setting the drift base to 0.10. Theme: dark tokens live in :root, the light variant in :root[data-theme="light"]; ?theme=light or a {type:'forever:theme'} postMessage switches at runtime.

Safe to edit

  • particle count cap (N=260)
  • laminar drift speed (drift formula, +0.18 base)
  • mote radius range (0.7–3.1 * S)
  • accent color RGB (192,86,60 warm)
  • background/trail wash color (#f2efe6 / rgba 0.14 alpha)
  • theme tokens (:root dark defaults + [data-theme=light] overrides)

Keep intact

  • DPR-aware canvas sizing and setTransform
  • IIFE wrapper
  • reduced-motion static fallback (rest())
  • visibilitychange pause/resume
  • theme hook (?theme= bootstrap + forever:theme message listener + theme tokens)
  • demo-v1 preview lifecycle: initialize demoEnabled from window.__foreverPreview and stop attract work on the window forever:interactive event; retain manual feedback, settling, cleanup and explicit sessions

Known limitations

  • Background hardcoded cream (#f2efe6) in both CSS and canvas fill — must change both to retheme
  • No aria semantics on canvas — decorative only
  • Gust decays via 0.95 multiplier per frame; very slow framerate makes gust persist longer
  • State remains local to each mounted instance; format/theme remount preserves takeover, not component values.
